Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How does Blue Holic Scuba compare to other stores?

Not only are we the only scuba shop in LA that utilizes an indoor, salt water pool - no chlorine for our students! We are also the only shop that offer two different types of dives within your certification. We recommend a Casino Point shore dive for your first diving experience. Casino Point is a Protected Underwater National Park just off the shore of Catalina Island. This offers perfect conditions for a first time diving in the ocean, where you can use steps to walk into the water from the shore. For your second dive trip, we recommend spending the day aboard the Explorer Dive Boat, jumping from boat to ocean giving you a completely different experience. This will ensure you receive the most well rounded, best of both worlds, scuba experience for your Open Water Cert.

Q. Can I still SCUBA dive even when I cannot swim?

You do not have to know how to swim well in order to SCUBA dive. Of course, knowing how to swim helps.

Normally, there are more people who cannot swim well; not swimming well may mean simply "cannot swim" or "did not get proper lesson."

People who cannot swim are most afraid of drinking water and sinking. However, when a diver wears wetsuits, he or she floats automatically. Also, SCUBA diving is a sport which a diver has to sink with a self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA).

The biggest hinderance to start diving is not that you cannot swim well, but it is that you are afraid of water by not swimming well. Please stop worrying, and when you let the instructor know about your issues, he or she will lead safely and comfortably to the water and underwater.
