Blue Holic Scuba's PADI Open Water Private Lesson is a fully personalized certification experience. One student. One instructor. No group schedule to follow, no waiting for others to catch up, and no pressure to move faster than you're ready to.
This course covers all the same skills and meets all the same PADI certification requirements as our standard Open Water course. The difference is the experience getting there.

Course Structure
Private lessons are built around your schedule and your needs. Most students complete certification with a combination of:
- 2 weekday sessions (pool and/or ocean, any combination based on your pace and comfort level)
- 1 optional weekend dive from our Dive Calendar for additional open water experience
The weekend session is optional but recommended. It gives you the chance to dive a different site and build confidence in a variety of conditions before certification is complete.

Here is how the full cost comes together.
Enrollment: $900 +
- Pool sessions: $35/session

- Personal gear (mask, snorkel, fins, boots, gloves): $350–600

- Gear rentals: $0 if you purchase personal gear with us, $95/dive day if not
- Additional sessions if needed: $35/session (pool) or ocean day rate
Your Personal Gear
Mask, snorkel, fins, boots, and gloves are required for this course. These items are not included in rentals. Every student needs their own, fitted to them.
BHS students receive 15% off all personal gear purchased in our shop, plus free gear rentals for the entire course.
We carry Scubapro, Bare, Seac, and Atomic at multiple price points. When you come in we fit each piece to your face, your feet, and your hands. You choose based on fit, comfort, and budget. If there is something you would like that we do not have in stock, just ask and we can order it for you.
Ocean Dive Options
For your private ocean training dives, choose the option that works best for you:
Casino Point, Catalina Island
One of the most iconic dive sites in Southern California. Departs Long Beach via Catalina Express ferry. Weekend trips are already on our Dive Calendar — reserve your spot there. For weekday private sessions, contact us directly to arrange.

Private Boat to Palos Verdes — $300
A private boat experience close to home. Great visibility, calm conditions, and no crowds. All yours.
Shore Dive — Complimentary
A no-cost option for skills diving in open water. Please note that shore dive visibility is conditions dependent and cannot be guaranteed. Best suited for completing skills rather than a full diving experience.

Certification Is Just The Beginning
Once you are certified, all of our pool sessions, ocean dives, and boat trips are open to you. Show up when you want, dive with people you know, and stay connected to a community that genuinely enjoys being underwater together.
Common Questions
Is this the same certification as the standard Open Water course?
Yes. You receive the same PADI Open Water Diver certification with full global recognition. The only difference is the format of instruction.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your pace and comfort level. Most students complete certification in 2 weekday sessions plus an optional weekend dive. We never rush the process.
What if I need more time in the pool before going to the ocean?
That is completely fine. Additional pool sessions are available at $35/session. We move to the ocean when you are ready.
Do you have gear for plus-sized divers?
Yes. Please call ahead so we can prepare everything you will need before your visit.
