The PADI Night Diver Specialty Course introduces divers to the unique experience of diving at night. Familiar dive sites transform after sunset as nocturnal marine life emerges and daytime species retreat.

This course builds confidence, awareness, and comfort while diving in low-light conditions.

Course Details

  • Dives Required: 3

  • Course Fee: $250

  • Prerequisite: PADI Open Water Diver (or equivalent)

  • Minimum Age: 12 years

  • Certification: PADI Night Diver Specialty

Where This Course Is Conducted

Night Diver training is completed in open water and may take place in several environments:

Local Shore Dives

Many night dives are conducted at local shore sites, allowing divers to return to familiar environments under different conditions.

Boat Dives

Some night dives may be completed on scheduled evening boat trips, depending on availability and conditions.

Offshore Oil Rigs (By Demand)

Select night dives may be conducted at offshore oil rigs, offering the opportunity to observe large-scale structures and marine life activity after dark.

Oil rig night dives are scheduled intentionally and may take place on smaller boats with an instructor.

What You’ll Learn

During three night dives, you’ll practice:

  • Primary and backup light handling

  • Light-based communication techniques

  • Night entry and exit procedures

  • Underwater navigation in low-light conditions

  • Buddy awareness and positioning

  • Observing nocturnal marine life behavior

The first dive of this specialty may count as an Adventure Dive toward the Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

Gear Requirements

Required Gear

  • Standard scuba equipment

  • Primary dive light

  • Backup dive light

  • Surface Marker Buoy (SMB)

Recommended

  • Additional exposure protection for evening conditions

  • Tank marker or light stick (as advised by your instructor)

Gear requirements will be confirmed prior to diving. Rentals are available.

Specialty Bundle Option

Complete any two PADI Specialty courses for $350 and receive:

  • 2 PADI Specialty certification cards

  • Credit toward Master Scuba Diver

Available specialties include:
Peak Performance Buoyancy, Deep Diver, Underwater Navigation, Fish Identification, Night Diver, Wreck Diver, and Enriched Air (Nitrox).
