🛍️ Step 1: Gear Preparation
We require students to bring a large dive bag to each session to keep gear organized and protected.
- Remove all packaging (plastic, cardboard) from gear.
- Attach snorkel to the left side of your mask using both straps.
- Try on your mask for comfort, then detach and store in its case.
- Pack your gear efficiently — use fins on the sides of the bag, wetsuit in the center, and tuck boots/gloves into corners.
🧼 Step 2: Prepping Your Brand New Mask
Brand-new masks have a factory residue that causes fogging. Here’s how to treat it:
- Use plain, white, non-gel toothpaste.
- Rub the inside of the lens for 5–10 minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
- Repeat if needed or leave overnight before rinsing.
🏊 Step 3: Pool Day
Location: Algin Sutton Pool
Address: 8800 S Hoover St, Los Angeles, CA 90044
Arrival: 8:00 AM | Wrap-Up: 11:30 AM
Bring all personal and rental gear. Use a checklist to confirm everything before arriving!
🏫 Step 4: Classroom Review
When: Usually after your second pool session (or rescheduled if needed).
Duration: 3 hours
Bring your completed Knowledge Review quizzes from your manual. We’ll review everything and take the final exam together. Ask questions — we’re here to help you feel confident!
🧽 Step 5: Gear Return & Cleaning
- Soak neoprene gear in a bathtub.
- Rinse your BCD, pressing all buttons underwater to remove salt.
- Rinse regulator gently with dust cap ON.
- Return by Tuesday after your ocean session for full deposit refund ($40).
📸 Step 6: Certification & What’s Next
- Send us a selfie (passport style) with no hat/sunglasses, under 300MB.
- Download the PADI App for digital license access.
- Optional: Request a physical license for an extra fee.
🎉 You’re certified! Join our boat trips, pool sessions, or our upcoming “Mindfulness Underwater” program. Consider investing in your own dive computer to keep growing as a diver.
